Let's start with what hurts. Your current website doesn't just cost you its annual subscription. It costs you customers. Every day, people search for your services on Google, arrive at your site, and then leave again because it's slow, confusing, or outdated. These people are calling your competitor. You never see it, but you pay for it.
This cost is invisible but very real. It's the restaurateur who doesn't understand why his tables are empty on Tuesdays while his competitor across the street is full. It's the plumber who wonders why he no longer receives calls. It's the merchant who does Facebook advertising without results because people arrive at a site that scares people away.
A website is not something you do once and forget for 10 years. It is a tool that must evolve with your business, with the habits of your customers and with what people expect from a site today.
A redesign starts by rethinking the architecture and the user journey.
1. The design no longer matches your business
The Internet is evolving quickly. Very quickly. A site that looked modern in 2023 looks outdated in 2026. Fonts, colours, layout: everything changes. A visibly dated or neglected site can weaken trust even before first contact. If your site is amateurish or outdated, it sends a clear message: this company is not up to date.
Look at your site with fresh eyes. Compare it to your competitors' sites, to the sites you visit yourself when looking for a product or service. If the difference is obvious, it is the most obvious sign.
2. Your site is unreadable on the phone
A significant portion of your audience visits the site on the phone. If your site doesn't display correctly on mobile -- tiny text, unclickable buttons, overflowing images, unusable menu -- some visitors may leave before contacting you.
Take the test now: pick up your phone, open your site. Can you read the text without zooming? Navigate easily? Find your phone number and click on it to call? If the answer is no to any of these questions, it's an urgent issue.
3. The site is slow on real devices
A slow page degrades the experience; measure its Core Web Vitals on real devices before deciding what to redo. This is the most brutal number on the internet. A site can be beautiful and still be painful to use if it displays its content late. Measure before choosing corrections.
The usual causes: images that are too heavy, low-end hosting, WordPress overloaded with extensions, unnecessary animations. The right target depends on the page and must be checked with real measurements.
4. No one can find you on Google
Type your profession + your city on Google. For example: “plumber Liège”, “Italian restaurant Ghent”, “halal butcher shop Brussels”. If the page is not indexed or does not respond to search, it cannot attract this audience. First check the queries and pages in Search Console.
Why won't Google show you? Often because the site has not been prepared for that: no texts designed for research, a poorly organized site, no links from other sites to yours. A redesign may correct obstacles, but no ranking position or time frame can be guaranteed.
5. Your site displays “Not secure”
An address using "http://" does not encrypt data between the browser and the website, and the browser may flag it as not secure. Google recommends HTTPS and treats it as a lightweight ranking signal, not a ranking guarantee. On a form, missing HTTPS is primarily a genuine security and trust problem. See Google's official guidance.
Securing a site is sometimes possible without redoing everything, but in most cases, an insecure site also has other problems that warrant redoing.
6. People arrive and leave immediately
If visitors leave without visiting another page, clicking or contacting the company, look for the cause in the available data instead of applying a universal threshold.
Possible causes: the content doesn't match what people were looking for, the design is creepy, the navigation is confusing, there's nothing that clearly tells the visitor what to do next (call, fill out a form, etc.), or the site is simply too slow.
7. You don’t know who is visiting your site
If you don't know how many people are visiting your site, where they're coming from, and what pages they're viewing, you're treading blind. It's like running a store without knowing how many customers come in each day. You can't improve what you don't measure.
There are free and simple tools to track traffic to your site. They need to be set up from day one. This is what lets you know what works and what doesn't.
Remaking a site and improving an existing site are not the same thing. The right choice depends on the condition of your current site. If you're not sure, our guide to know if your website is really good will help you see clearly.
When one improvement is enough
If your site is fairly new (less than 2 years old), the look is still correct and the base is healthy, targeted improvements may be enough:
- Make the site faster (lighten images, optimize operation)
- Add content to be better visible on Google
- Set up a visitor tracking tool
- Secure the site (change to https)
- Improve display on phone
- Add clear buttons to encourage visitors to contact you
The cost of an improvement varies depending on what needs to be done. Contact us for a free assessment.
When you have to redo everything
If your site combines several of the 7 signs listed above, a full redesign may be more coherent than a series of fixes. The decision follows an assessment of the existing foundation.
Redoing a site means starting again on healthy foundations: new look, new organization, new texts, new visibility Google. Before you get started, our WordPress or tailor-made guide helps you choose the right technology. The aim is to make the journey clearer and enquiries measurable, without guaranteeing a commercial result.
After redesign: a fast, accessible and well-referenced site.
At Hebora, redesigning a site follows a clear 5-step process. You validate each step before moving on to the next. No surprise.
Step 1: We take stock (free)
We start by analysing your current site in detail: is it fast? Clearly visible on Google? Pleasant to use? What works and what doesn't? We also look at what your competitors are doing to spot opportunities.
This diagnosis is free. This is our way of showing you our expertise before asking you anything.
Step 2: We prepare the plan and the models
Based on the diagnosis, we define the plan together: how the site will be organized, what pages it will contain, what searches Google we want to appear on, how to guide visitors to action (call, order, fill out a form). We then create visual models. You see exactly what your new site will look like before we start building it.
Step 3: We build the site
The site is custom built. No ready-made template, no copy and paste. A clean, fast, efficient site. Each page is designed to be displayed quickly and to be clearly understood by Google. The site is first designed for the phone, then adapted for the computer.
Step 4: Texts and visibility Google
The texts on each page are written or improved so that Google understands what your site is about and shows it to the right people. Google descriptions, titles, organization of pages: everything is designed to make your site findable. Google visibility isn't a last minute addition, it's built into every step.
Step 5: Uploading and tracking
The new site is put online ensuring that Google does not "forget" you (we properly redirect the old pages to the new ones). We configure visitor tracking and report your site to search engines. We monitor the results during the first 3 months and adjust if necessary.
Each project is different, and the budget is adapted to your real needs:
- Showcase site (5-10 pages) : on quote
- Advanced showcase site (10-20 pages, local visibility Google) : on quote
- Online store : on quote
- Complex tailor-made project : on quote
The estimate specifies the diagnosis, design, construction, texts, visibility Google and the follow-up retained. Every included item is written before startup.
You don't necessarily need to redo everything. At Hebora, we can also take your existing site and gradually improve it. If your WordPress site works but needs a refresh, better Google visibility or to be secure, we'll take care of it.
The advantage: a lighter budget and a smooth transition. The limit: possible improvements depend on the existing base. It is during the initial diagnosis that we determine together whether an improvement is sufficient or whether the site needs to be redone.
Will I lose my current visibility on Google?
A redesign can change search visibility. To limit that risk, we inventory URLs, implement and verify redirects, and monitor indexing after launch. No ranking can be guaranteed.
How long does a redesign take?
The deadline depends on the content to be taken over, validations, languages and functionalities. The schedule is established after inventory of the existing site and validation of the perimeter.
What if my current site is on CMS e-commerce or WordPress?
No problem. You can take over a site from any platform. Existing content is scraped, cleaned and improved. Redirects are in place. Your customers see no downtime -- just a better site overnight.
Do I have to write the texts myself?
Not necessarily. Hebora can write all the texts for your site, designed for Google and adapted to your clients. You reread and validate each text. If you prefer to provide your own texts, we adapt them so that they work well on the web.
Frequently asked questions
How do you know if a redesign is necessary?
Check mobile, real speed, security, indexing, message clarity and contact working. Sometimes targeted corrections are enough.
Can the redesign cause you to lose SEO?
Yes if useful URLs disappear without equivalent, if the content is deleted or if the new page becomes less accessible. Relevant inventory and redirects reduce this risk without guaranteeing positions.
How long does a redesign take?
Timing depends on content, validations, languages and features. It must be quantified after the audit, not announced as a universal average.
Which technology to choose?
The choice depends on the team, updates, necessary connections, maintenance budget and access ownership.
